Stunning West Coast Beach Wedding
A little back story is needed for this one. Sam (Co-owner of TNW) has a wife. Her name is Jess. She was a singer in a dope Seattle rock band once upon a time called Lady Justice. We used to shoot a lot of video and photos for her band and became good friends with the band. The bass player from Lady Justice is the groom, Sam, from this amazing wedding!
Stay tuned until the end because not only did we shoot video for their wedding day, but we also shot photos for their raging reception which was the next day.
Here is the 1 minute teaser of their wedding so you can get an idea of what’s about to happen!
Tyler (me), Sam, and Jess (remember, Sam’s wife/band mate of the groom who is also named Sam. Hopefully that doesn’t get too confusing!) we all hopped in the car and headed to the #OregonCoast. We were driving from #Seattle to #PacificCity, OR which is a about a 4.5 hour drive depending on Seattle and Portland traffic.
Tahnee and Sam got married on the Pacific City #Beach walking distance from town but just south so it wasn’t too crowded. Just north on the coast is Cape Kiwanda which is an amazing beach with huge sand dunes that you can climb up to these big rock cliffs that overlook the ocean. #CapeKiwanda is actually a pretty large Natural Area with trails and plenty to explore.
The morning of the wedding the three of us went out for filling breakfast before heading to the beach to meet up with Sam where he told us he was going to get out in the water hoping for some decent waves to ride on his surfboard. We drove onto the humongous sandy beach and recognized Sam and his father out in the Pacific Ocean on their surfboards. We captured some B-roll and a few photos before they came out to greet us.
Once the gals were all made up and the guys were looking suave, we trek up the dunes to set up a first look.
Mid day in late June in the #PacificNorthwest and the weather could not have been better. It was a very warm 70’s with full sun, not necessarily ideal for photo and video but we embraced it entirely as it was such a glorious day! Tahnee and Sam were so happy this day had come and you could tell by their smiles and body language. The wedding party cheered them on during photos as we scampered around the cliffs and dunes finding the best spots to showcase how cool of a location this was!
The day honestly felt like it was an adventure elopement but we knew we had to get back down to the beach where 20 or so more family and friends were waiting for the ceremony. They set up a cute little half circle ceremony spot in the sand.
As the sun’s golden light flooded the shore the wedding party walked out while Sam’s father played the guitar. Tahnee’s brother, cowboy hat blocking the sun, stood center ready to marry them with a big smile. Everyone stood in their bare feet as Tahnee emerged and made her way to her husband-to-be who stood with a glint in his eye. Their most special day was here.
Sam and Tahnee’s vows were pure poetry with lines like ” ” and ” “. Tears poured from Sam’s eyes and Tahnee’s smile was infectious. It was a short and sweet ceremony and by the time the sun was below the horizon of the Pacific Ocean, it was over and a bon fire had been lit by the groom.
We then snuck the couple off back to the cliffs for some blue hour portraits and some epic drone shots. Check out the highlight video for all the gorgeousness! The video gets more epic and more beautiful as it goes on too so stay tuned even through the vows if you aren’t into that sort of thing :’D
The next day we travelled inland to the outskirts of Portland to Sam’s parent’s property where the extended reception took place. They have a big field, vineyard, barn property that they decorated and set up for friends and family to come celebrate their marriage. Needless to say, we had great time partying it up that night and the whole weekend was a total blast! Take us back! Here are some photos of the reception to close it out.
Until next time, we are True Northwest Weddings.
